Grading

Grades will be determined by:

20%- Cumulative Scores on the Aplia.com assignments

20%-Midterm Exam

20%-Term Paper

40%-Final Exam

The final will be cumulative.

Plus/minus grading will not be used.

All examinations are closed book, closed note. Students may bring a calculator into the exam room but the calculator's memory must be purged of all class related material before entering the exam room.

There will be a series of pop quizzes. Points from the quizzes will be added onto the next exam.

Policy on Academic Dishonesty:

University rules prohibit cheating, fabrication, facilitating the academic dishonesty of another student, and plagiarism. If you engage in any of these activities in this class, you can expect to receive a failing grade. A letter will be sent to the appropriate campus officials. “Cheating or plagiarism in connection with an academic program at a campus is listed in Section 41301, Title V, California Code of Regulations, as an offense for which a student may be expelled, suspended or given a less severe disciplinary sanction” (2004-2006 CSUN Catalog, pages 531-532).

Drop/Add Policy.

The University drop/add policy will be strictly followed (http://www.cgf.org/cat209/101455.pdf). This means that after the 3rd week of instruction drops will not be allowed.

According to University policy, non-attendance does not constitute withdrawal; to withdraw from this class you must file a drop form with the University. If you fail to formally drop the class, a "WU" (unauthorized withdrawal), the equivalent of a failing grade, will be recorded.

The university drop policy allows students to drop online during the first three weeks of the semester. The 4th Week Change of Schedule Petition (for use in week 4 of classes only) is available online at http://www.csun.edu/a&r/forms/pdf/petition.html. However, during the fourth week, drops are “normally not permitted.” Petitions to drop during the 4th week require that the student document a "serious and compelling reason."

After the fourth week, the only option to drop is a Complete Medical Withdrawal (http://www.csun.edu/~shcenter/medicalwithdrawls.htm) (based on your illness or that of someone you take care of).

A grade of "Incomplete" will only be assigned when most of the course has been completed with a passing grade. This is only permitted when unforeseen circumstances arise that preclude finishing course work related to a class. According to University policy, an incomplete may not be assigned when a student would have to retake a course. (See the CSUN 2004-2006 Catalog, page 56.)

Missed Exam and Assignment Policy.

Students are required to show up and take all exams at the scheduled times and complete all assignments by the announced due date/time. A student who doesn't take an exam without prior approval will receive a score of 0.

For the electronic homework, technical problems are not considered an excuse for not completing the assignments on time. Technical problems include but are not limited to network connection outages, virus/spyware infections, and breakdown of the students computer.
